On Sunday, Hannah David, the Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Harrow West, took to the streets with her Rubbish Friends group to clean up the area around Sudbury Hill Tube Station.
Rubbish Friends was set up by Mrs David last summer as a social action initiative to keep our Borough tidy and to encourage greater pride in our area. Since then, she has been joined by many local volunteers who have helped to clean up some of Harrow’s worst litter and fly-tipping spots.
This was the first Rubbish Friends meeting since the latest round of cuts to Harrow’s street cleaning budget, which were pushed through by Harrow’s Labour Council at last Thursday night’s Budget Meeting.
Following the Rubbish Friends meeting, Mrs David said, “The residents of Harrow are furious at this latest round of budget cuts. Every week, I receive emails from residents who are concerned about the damage that litter on our streets is doing to our environment and to our local economy. With these new cuts things will only get worse”
“When the Council refuses to do its job, it is our civic duty to act. That is what Rubbish Friends is all about. However with these new cuts the litter problem will soon be out of control. That is why I am standing up to Harrow Council, and am calling for them to reinstate the street cleaning budget.”
